Most answers to this question are a range so wide it's useless. So here are actual numbers, taken from our own calculators, GST included, collected from our Canning Vale warehouse. You can check every one of them yourself in about two minutes.
The short answer
For a 12 metre run with one gate — a fairly typical suburban pool perimeter — the complete DIY kit costs:

Look at the flat top and blade rows for 6m and 8m with a gate — identical prices. That's not a mistake. Panels come in fixed widths, so a 6m run and an 8m run can need exactly the same parts, with the difference absorbed in the gaps. Two extra metres of fence for nothing is a real thing, and it's why it's worth pricing a couple of lengths rather than assuming cost rises smoothly.
The four things that actually drive the price
1. Which style you pick
The single biggest factor. Nearly three to one between flat top and PerfMesh for the same run. If budget is the constraint, this is the lever — not shaving a metre off the length. See glass vs aluminium vs mesh for what you give up.
2. How many gates
A gate is the most expensive component per millimetre in any pool fence. It is a manufactured item with self-closing hinges and a self-latching latch, and it replaces cheap panel with expensive gate. On the numbers above, adding one gate to an 8m flat top run is about $79; on PerfMesh it's over $600.
One gate is usually enough. If you're considering two for convenience, price both first.
3. Run length — but not the way you'd think
Per-metre cost falls as the run gets longer, because gates, end posts and hardware are fixed costs spread over more fence. Glass drops from $166/m at 6m to $156/m at 12m without a gate. Short runs are proportionally expensive.
4. What's under the fence line
This one isn't in the kit price at all, and it's where budgets get surprised:
- Existing concrete or paving over concrete — cheapest. Base-mount spigots or post bases bolt straight down. No extra cost.
- Core-drilled glass spigots — a neater finish, but you're hiring a core drill or paying someone.
- Soil, lawn or garden bed — footings need pouring. Budget for concrete, and for the labour if you're not doing it.
- Timber decking — fixings must reach a structural bearer or joist, which sometimes means adding blocking underneath.
- Sloping ground — a continuous fall may need raked panels, which are a different, dearer product than a standard panel.
What's in the kit, and what isn't
Included: panels, posts or spigots, gate, self-closing hinges, self-latching latch, brackets, caps and fixings — the complete fence as the calculator draws it.
Not included: concrete or footings, core drilling, tool hire, removing an old fence, and any earthworks. Those are site costs, not fence costs, and they vary far too much to quote generically.

DIY or installed?
The prices above are supply-only kits, which is the whole point of buying this way — you're not paying for a day of someone else's labour.
If you'd rather not, we also supply and install across Perth. Installation is quoted on the job, because it depends almost entirely on that fourth factor above — what's under the fence line.
Not sure which way to go? Plenty of people install the straightforward runs themselves and get us to do the tricky corner or the sloping side.
The costs people forget
- Your council's inspection fee. In WA, local governments are required to inspect private pool barriers periodically — currently at least once every four years — and most charge a fee for it. Check with your own council; they vary.
- Removing the old fence. Disposal costs money and takes a trailer.
- The 900mm non-climbable zone. If there's an air-con unit, pump, retaining wall or garden bed inside that arc, something has to move — and moving a pump is not free.
- A second gate you didn't need. See above.
